Frequently Asked Dental Questions

Dentistry is a subject most people only think about twice a year when it’s time for their checkup and cleaning, but it’s extremely important when it comes to your oral and overall health! If you have any questions about taking care of your teeth or your available treatment options, you’ll always find answers here at the dental office of Robert Graffeo, DDS…just call us! Below, we’ve already answered some popular FAQs, but feel free to ask us anything that comes to mind.

How often do I need to go to the dentist?

The answer to this question can vary from person to person depending on their specific needs, but generally, people of all ages should attend at least two checkups and cleanings each year to maintain their dental health and make sure any issues are treated as early as possible.

One of my teeth really hurts. When will you be able to see me?

For patients dealing with severe dental pain, whether it’s due to a toothache or an accident, we’re happy to schedule an emergency appointment right away. Just give us a call, explain your situation, and we’ll work to see you as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can take an OTC medicine like ibuprofen and use a cold compress to reduce any pain and swelling.

How long will it take to repair my decayed/broken tooth?

If the damage is only minor, we should be able to repair it in a single appointment using a tooth-colored filling. For more extensive trauma, the best solution may be a dental crown, which requires at least two appointments to design, make, and place.

My denture keeps slipping out of place. Can you help stop this?

Yes! If you’ve had your denture relined multiple times, but it keeps slipping, we can provide you with one that is custom-made to fit your mouth as comfortably and securely as possible. Or, for an even better hold, we can attach a denture directly to your jawbone using a small number of dental implants. We can upgrade your current denture to fit over implants, or we can provide you with a completely new prosthetic if necessary.

Are dental implants better than traditional bridges or dentures?

This answer really depends on the patient. Right now, dental implants are the closest thing to natural teeth we can provide someone, as they look extremely lifelike and can last for decades. However, many patients prefer traditional bridges and dentures because they take less time to get than implants and usually don’t involve surgery. If you’re interested in replacing your missing teeth, we’ll be sure to go over all your options so you can choose the one that is best for you.

I want to straighten my teeth, but I don’t want metal braces. What should I do?

You should consider Invisalign! With it, we can correct crooked, crowded, and gapped teeth as well as misaligned bites using a treatment your friends and coworkers won’t ever notice. Invisalign shifts the teeth discreetly with clear plastic aligner trays, meaning patients can maintain their regular appearance while enhancing their smile. Right now, you can get a custom-made Invisalign treatment for as little as $99 a month here at the dental office of Robert Graffeo, DDS. Will you take my insurance?

Yes, we accept all PPO dental insurance plans, and we’re happy to file claims for our patients so we can make sure they are getting every dollar they deserve. How can we use your specific plan to help you save? Contact us today to learn more.
