What Are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

Dental fillings are combos of plastics, glass, and other things used to repair teeth. Per their name, they basically “fill” holes left by tooth decay (i.e., cavities). This effect keeps treated areas safe from harmful bacteria and debris.

As you might expect, tooth-colored fillings are made to look like enamel. Their custom nature lets them blend seamlessly with the rest of your smile. So, your peers likely won’t even know you had a cavity.

The reason for these results is the filling material – composite resin. You see, this substance is metal-free and naturally tooth-colored. That being the case, it rarely causes allergies and hides cavities perfectly.

The Process of Getting a Tooth-Colored Filling

Ultimately, getting a tooth-colored filling is pretty easy. The process is simple and quick enough that it only takes a one-hour visit.

The filling procedure has several short steps. Firstly, Dr. Graffeo will numb your mouth with an anesthetic. (Doing so ensures treatment won’t hurt.) From there, he and the dental team will remove any decayed enamel and clean your tooth’s innards. They’ll then wrap up their work by applying the actual filling.

After the filling is placed, there won’t be much to do. Our staff will only need to make a few last-minute adjustments. Once those are done, your treated tooth will be strong and ready to face the world!
