Why Choose Robert Graffeo DDS for Invisalign?

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear plastic aligners to correct the alignment of your teeth and/or bite. Each aligner is made out of clear plastic and has been uniquely designed to fit in your mouth. This makes the aligners virtually invisible when you’re wearing them. Most people won’t even realize you’re using Invisalign and will instead only see a smile that’s gradually becoming straighter and more attractive. You can remove Invisalign aligners during meals so that they don’t prevent you from enjoying any of your favorite foods.

The Invisalign Process

The first step is to take impressions and plan your treatment accordingly. Multiple aligners will be created at once. You’ll wear the first set for about two weeks; during this time, you’ll need to keep them in your mouth for at least 20 to 22 hours every day. (Be sure to set a reminder to put them back in after meals.) Once you’re done with the first set, you’ll move on to the next one and repeat the process. We’ll ask you to return to our practice every six weeks or so in order to confirm that everything is proceeding as planned.

Who’s a Good Candidate?

Adult or teenage patients with the self-control necessary to leave the aligners in place may be candidates for Invisalign if they suffer from mild to moderate cases of the following orthodontic issues:

Invisalign for Teens

It goes without saying that plenty of teenagers prefer removable see-through aligners to traditional braces. That said, the process only works if your teen has enough self-control to leave the aligners in their mouth for most of the day. We can make sure they’re complying with the treatment during their periodic visits. Let us know if your teenager ends up losing one of their aligners; we’ll get a replacement as soon as we can in order to put their treatment back on track.

Cost of Invisalign

When we’re forming an estimate of the overall cost of your Invisalign treatment, we’ll need to consider a few different factors. Specifically, we’ll need to take the complexity of your orthodontic issues and the number of aligners required to make the necessary corrections into account. Once we have an estimate that you can work with, we can help you explore ways to ensure that the treatment is affordable.

Invisalign FAQs

If you’re ready to achieve a straight smile without the unsightly appearance of brackets and wires, Invisalign in Hoboken may be the solution for you. Although you’re excited to get started on your journey to an improved smile, it’s normal to have a few questions before you’re ready to commit to a treatment. We understand, which is why we take the time to explain the process and address your concerns during your initial consultation. In the meantime, here are the answers to a few of the most common questions we’re asked to help ease any of your apprehensions.

Am I too old for braces?

You’re never too old for braces! Age is not necessarily a determining factor for treatment. In fact, 1 in 5 orthodontic patients are over the age of 18, which is attributed to more diverse treatment options, like Invisalign. The clear aligners are most often recommended for teens and adults who need braces but don’t want to deal with brackets and wires.

Does Invisalign hurt?

As with any orthodontic treatment, you can expect there to be some minor discomfort from the continual pressure on your teeth; however, it usually only occurs after an adjustment, like switching to a new aligner. It can be managed easily with an over-the-counter pain reliever. Many patients report Invisalign to be more comfortable than traditional metal braces because there aren’t any brackets or wires irritating the inside of the lips or cheeks.

How long will my treatment take?

There isn’t a pre-determined duration for your treatment because it’s based on your individual needs. On average, it takes about 12 months to finish your series of aligners; however, the length of your treatment is determined by your personalized plan. Generally, if you have complex orthodontic needs, you’ll require more aligners. As a result, you can expect your treatment to take longer than when compared to a patient who only needs to make minor adjustments. It’s best to follow your treatment plan correctly to ensure nothing adds unnecessary delays.

Will I need a retainer?

You will need a retainer after completing your series of aligners to prevent your teeth from moving back into their previous positions. Initially, you’ll need to wear it at all times to preserve your investment. Don’t worry, there are many discreet solutions available.

Can I use my dental insurance?

Believe it or not, but many dental insurance carriers pay a portion of the cost of clear aligners. Although every policy differs, often those that include orthodontia may offer some coverage. A member of our team will work on your behalf with your dental insurance to maximize any benefits. We’ll help you find the solutions you need to minimize your out-of-pocket expense to achieve your straight smile without breaking the bank.
